How to set up a CNAME for your white label site

Last Updated: May 16, 2012 11:18AM EDT

CNAME?

Technical Definition

A CNAME record or Canonical Name record is a type of resource record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that specifies that the domain name is an alias of another, canonical domain name.

Understandable Definition

Your white label site is hosted on our servers. We borrow a domain name from you (eg. live.yoursite.com), and disguise the white label site with that domain. This causes search engines and your users to view all of the white label content as content that still belongs to your website.

Setup

To set up the CNAME on your end just tell your server administrator or hosting company to "CNAME live.yoursite.com to yoursite.site.scribblelive.com". They will know exactly what you mean.

Once the CNAME has been set up on your end let your sales rep know or email us at support@scribblelive.com and we will get it set up on our end. The whole process should take 48 hours.
