Email Commenting

Offer your users another way to interact with your content by having back-end users and front-end audience members email images, PDF files, video or audio to your stream. You can customize your email address, or redirect your front-end audiences’ emails to a vanity email address.

Have Back-End Users Post to Your Stream via Email

Using the stream's Menu, navigate to Setup Email.

Each stream has two email addresses: one for Writers (your authors) and another for Commenters (public users).

FOR WRITERS

Using the email address found in the Writers column allows emails from your trusted authors, to be published directly into your stream as posts.

FOR COMMENTERS

Using the email address found in the Commenters column, allows emails from public users or your front-end audience members to flow into your stream as commentsNote: If Moderation is enabled, emails submitted as comments will flow into your Moderation queue for your approval.

Helpful Hints

  • Users can only email one file per email.
  • The subject line will be used as the caption for the emailed media.
  • User names will be displayed as the sender’s name (e.g., If the email appears as “John Smith” <john.smith@example.com> in your inbox, the name “John Smith” will be displayed as the commenter’s name.) If there is no sender name, everything before the @ symbol in the commenter’s email address will be displayed as the commenter’s name (i.e., “john.smith”)

Edit the Submission Email Address

The six-digit commenters’ email address can be edited to be more topical to your stream’s content.

To edit the commenter email address:

1. Go to your stream’s Write page and navigate to Setup > Email from the top of the page.

2. In the Commenters section, click the Edit button next to the email field.

3. Modify the email address to [anythingyouwant]@scribblelive.com, and click Save.

4. To reset the email to the default six-digit commenter email, click on Reset.

Note: A customized commenter email can only be used in one stream at a time.

Redirect to a Vanity Email

The default six-digit commenters’ email address can also be edited to a vanity email address on your domain. That is, instead of having your front-end viewer's email comments to xxxxxx@scribblelive.com, they can be sent to comments@yourdomain.com and will appear in your stream as comments, or in your moderation queue, depending on your moderation settings. To do this, you will need to redirect your vanity email address to the Live commenter email.

To set up an email redirect:

1. Go to your stream’s Write page and navigate to Setup > Email from the top of the page.

2. On your email server, redirect the vanity email address to the Live commenter email address (i.e., emails sent to comments@yourdomain.com should be forwarded to xxxxxx@scribblelive.com, or the email address found in the commenter section of your Email settings page.)

3. Replace the default six-digit Live commenter email with your vanity email address, comments@yourdomain.com.
