Why are Live's Analytics different from the Analytics I'm seeing from another Analytics Suite?

Although Live offers an Enhanced Metrics package* to track your audience engagement, some clients also prefer to add their own tracking code to better gauge their content performance.

Sometimes however, you may notice differences between Live analytics, and another analytics suite. Although Live and other analytics suites may provide the same metrics (i.e. engagement minutes, live watchers etc.) there are several differences between how these analytics are tracked and accumulated. The easiest and perhaps most common answer as to why differences may exist between analytic packages, is due to the difference in how a session is defined.

What is a Session?

A session is a group of interactions that take place on your page within a selected time frame.

For instance, Google Analytics sessions, by default, will expire after 30 minutes of inactivity, or at midnight. Whereas Live's sessions do not have a time-based expiry and will only expire once a browser is closed.
